    East Bay Birding

    Field Trip

  • Date: 11/24/2007

  • Wintering Birds of the East Bay

The East Bay Regional Parks offer an array of fresh and salt-water marshes, wetlands, salt ponds, creeks and open bay waters, with easy access from a network of trails. This all-day field trip will afford participants opportunities to see and hear a variety of wintering and resident birds at close range, including ducks, gulls, rails, shorebirds and waders, all within an urban setting. The area often plays host to one or more rare or uncommon vagrants in the winter. In Oakland, we’ll visit Lake Merritt and several sights in the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline, including Damon Marsh, Doolittle Pond and Arrowhead Marsh. Other areas will be included as time permits. Participants will walk on flat, accessible trails from which we will scope out the birds.

Meet at 7:00am at the Nugget Center parking lot in South Davis, behind Burger King for carpooling. Pack a lunch and drinks for the day. Dress in warm layers and wear comfortable footwear. We will return to Davis around 5:30pm. This is an ideal field trip for beginners. Heavy rain cancels. The field trip leader is Terry Colborn (530)-758-0689.
