Bobelaine Sanctuary & Sutter Basin
Field Trip
Bobelaine is a rare remnant of the riparian
forests that once projected two to five miles on either side of the rivers in
the Great Central Valley of California. Early morning is the best to check out
this riparian preserve along the Feather River. There maybe some interesting
migrants, as well as resident raptors, woodpeckers, and passerines. We’ll see if
we can ID juvenile birds and ducks in eclipse. There are trails through this oak
woodland habitat, so come ready to walk to the overlook with the Feather River;
we might see Sandhill Cranes coming back for the winter. The second part of this
trip will be a drive through the Sutter Bypass and along a levee. Perhaps we’ll
get lucky finding a few more variety of birds as we return to Yolo County.
Meet
at the Park and Ride lot off Mace Boulevard (NE of Hwy 80; behind Ikeda’s) in
Davis at 7:00 am. Bring water, snacks, lunch and hiking shoes. All levels of
birder welcome, some binoculars will be available for the use of adults and
children. We’ll plan on returning by early afternoon.
Trip leader is Sami
LaRocca, (530) 908-0288 (cell). NOTE: High winds or a significant rainstorm
cancels this trip.
