    Bird Banding

    Field Trip

  • Date: 05/26/2012
  • Time: 07:00:00 AM
  • Saturday May 26 Nestboxes and Bird Banding

Every year, hundreds of Tree Swallows, Western Bluebirds, Ash-throated Flycatchers, and other cavity-nesting birds take up residence in nestboxes along Putah Creek. Come out for a morning of nest monitoring, banding, and birding along the nestbox trail. We’ll split up into small groups with licensed bird banders to get a remarkable, up-close view of the lives of breeding songbirds.
We will meet at 7:00 AM at the Park-N-Ride lot by Ikeda Market (off of the Mace Boulevard Exit from I-80). The nest trail we visit will be chosen based on bird activity, but will be along Putah Creek south or west of Davis. Bring plenty of water; sun block and insect repellant are recommended. We should return to the Park-N-Ride by 11:30 AM. Contact Bobby Walsh at 661-993-7569 or rgwalsh@ucdavis.edu for more information.
