Burrowing owl

    Mosquito Ridge Road

    Field Trip

  • Date: 05/19/2012
  • Time: 03:00:00 PM
  • Saturday, May 19th Mosquito Ridge Road

This outing features owling in a mid-elevation Sierran forest. We will attempt to find as many species of owls as possible on this trip (some of the species observed on past trips include Flammulated, Northern Pygmy, Northern Saw-whet, Spotted and Western Screech). Great Horned Owl and Barn Owl are also possible.
We will meet at the Park-n-Ride Lot behind the Ikeda Market in Davis (off of Mace Boulevard) at 3:00 PM for carpooling to Mosquito Ridge Road. We will make our way to Placer Big Trees Grove, with several stops to bird along the way. We will have a picnic dinner at the grove prior to beginning our owling for the evening. Bring food, drinks, sunscreen, mosquito repellent and several layers of clothing and be prepared for a late evening (we will probably be back well after midnight).
This trip is limited to 12 participants to minimize the noise and disturbance to the owls. I will fill the trip on a first come, first served basis, so please contact me ASAP (916-514-0685 [home phone] or 916-616-8835 [cell phone]) if you are interested in this trip. I can also be reached via email at harpy12@comcast.net.
