Field Trip
********************************************************************* DUE TO RAIN TRIP IS POSTPONED UNTIL MARCH 24 *********************************************************************
Participants will meet Marketplace Shopping Center at 7:30 am. Plan to finish up by 1 pm. Destinations will be determined by presence of birds at that time. Rain will cancel the trip. Bring binoculars if you have them and drinking water if you need it. We will probably visit the City of Davis Wetlands and/or the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area to look for waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, swallows, and possible Yellow-headed Blackbirds. If you have questions, please call Betty Berteaux, 756-1686.
Yolo Audubon Society Field Trip – March 24,2012
The tour leaders were Stella Taylor and Betty Berteaux there were 3 participants – 2 leaders plus one participant.
Rescheduled from March 17 on account of weather, and in spite of a prediction for 100% chance of rain, we visited the City of Davis Wetlands and the ponds adjacent to the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the landfill, the farm pond on Rd. 101 and the Binning Tract.
It was cool, 50 degrees, overcast and calm.
We saw or heard most of the expected species; unexpected species were a Horned Grebe on the west portion of Stormwater Pond and a 1st year Glaucous Gull on the landfill pond.
A Red-tailed Hawk sat on a nest at the SE corner of the auto tour loop.
On the pond on Rd. 101 were 4 pairs of Scaup, probably lesser.
Altogether we counted 63 species.
