    Field Trip

  • Date: 01/24/2010
  • Time: 01:00:00 PM
  • Join us for an afternoon and sundown tour into “Sand-hill Crane” country. We’ll visit Cosumnes River Preserve and observe foraging cranes, waterfowl, shorebirds and songbirds, then head over to Woodbridge Road as sunset approaches to watch an evening fly-in spectacle.
Meet at the Park and Ride at Mace Blvd and I-80 at 1 pm. Prepare for cold and damp with appropriate clothing layers and bring any snack-type foods you need to carry you through to about 6:45 or 7 pm when we plan to be back.
For any questions contact Mary Schiedt at (530) 400-7094.

Field trip report: Following the wonderful Sandhill Crane program by Paul Tebbel, we had planned a Crane field trip on January 24th to Cosumnes River Preserve and Woodbridge Road. It was a rainy day and we had four people who braved the chance of deluge to do a somewhat modified itinerary. We saw 58 species and got only a little wet (timing is everything) in the process. A “rain check” trip was promised for the following Sunday (January 31st) and we had glorious weather for the thirteen people who came. We found 62 species of birds on our jaunt and got some exercise as well.
