Gates/Mix Canyon
Field Trip
In Solano County off Pleasants Valley Road we’ll go up the ridge exploring the oak riparian and chaparral habitats of Vaca Mountains. Along the ridge there is a stand of Black Oak, we may be treated to a golden fall color display. Often seen here during the winter are a variety of hawks and residents such as Bewick’s Wren, Oak Titmouse and Pygmy Owl. Seasonal visitors here include Fox Sparrow, Stellar Jay, Varied Thrush and Band-tailed Pigeon and Golden-crowned Kinglet.
Meet at the Marketplace Shopping Center (near Big 5 Sporting Goods, 1301 W. Covell just east of Hwy 113) at 7:30. We’ll plan on getting back to Davis about 2:00.
All levels of birders are welcome. Bring water, snacks/lunch and binoculars.
Trip leader is Sami LaRocca, (530) 908-0288 (cell)
