    Sacramento NWR

    Field Trip

  • Date: 12/05/2009

  • Join the Yolo Audubon Society to experience one of the great concentrations of wildlife in North America. The skies will be full of not just thousands or tens of thousands, but perhaps hundreds of thousands of ducks, geese, and swans. The marshes will be teeming with grebes, herons, egrets, and wintering shorebirds as well as waterfowl. We will spend a leisurely day at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge studying all these birds and more. In the morning we will walk the marsh trail, and after lunch we’ll drive the tour route to enjoy not only the sheer numbers of birds but also to look for less common birds like Eurasian Wigeon and Blue-winged Teal. This trip is fun for beginners and experts so we expect to see everyone with an interest.

Meet at the Park and Ride lott off Mace Boulevard (NE of Hwy 80; behind Ikeda’s) in Davis at 7:30 AM. Bring binoculars, spotting scope if you have one, sack lunch, and beverages. Remember to dress in layers. Even if clear in Davis, the refuge can be overcast, damp, and cool. For more information, contact Sid England at 756-7882.
