Davis Bike & Bird
Field Trip
Davis Bike and Bird
On bicycles, we will follow a clockwise path around Davis, hitting parks,
greenbelts and water courses, to survey the common birds seen
in a typical day in Davis. This field trip could be used as a way to
see as many birds as possible in one day within the city limits. A
great trip for beginning birders of all ages; become familiar with
common birds wintering in Davis.
Meet group at 9:45am at the Covell Nugget Market parking lot, near
Carl’s Junior. We’ll begin with a swing around Wildhorse for a view of
some resident Burrowing Owls. We will pass through Slide Hill Park to
Lake Alhambra and then ride through Explorit Park and over the highway
to Willow Creek Park and the Putah Creek Greenbelt. After lunch at the
UC Davis Arboretum Duck Pond, we will wend our way through UC Davis
Campus and hit some West Davis highlights, proceeding along the
Perimeter Greenbelt Park to Northstar Park/Drainage Pond. From there,
we will hit a few central Davis hotspots and back to the Nugget Market
parking lot.
You will need a bike, helmet, water and lunch; plan on a long day. The
pace will be leisurely, with stops for any interesting bird. If you
have any questions, call leader Carl Schwedler, (530) 210-3104.
Binoculars may be available, but please let me know in advance.
