Tips and Techniques for Drawing Birds
Program
December 9, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Studio C, Davis Art Center, 1919 F Street, Davis
Workshop Presenter: John Muir Laws, author of the Laws Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada.
Come learn the basics of bird anatomy and tricks to help you
quickly draw birds in the field either for field notes or the
pleasure of sketching. What are the details you should be sure to
check when a bird is still in front of you? Understand the anatomy
that is important for an artist to be familiar with to avoid
anatomical pitfalls that creep into many bird drawings. Jack will
share tricks on how to draw the details of heads, wings, and feet
even after the bird has flown. We will practice deconstructing a
bird with our eyes and simplifying complex patterns and shapes.
Master the one minute gesture sketch! This class will help you
whether you are working with fast field sketches or detailed studio drawings.
The registration cost is $75 for members of Yolo Audubon Society, and $90 for non-members.
